Dexron ll atf

Post by demag »

I bought some new Dexron ll for the auto box today.

I was idly looking on the web about HP14 boxes and found this on a Honda/Rover forum, makes interesting reading:

(My Rover dealer had never even heard of using special oil for the 825/Jatco autoboxes, until I first ordered some! before that, they used to top those up with Dexron! So they got me some in, and extra stock for themselves, next time I wanted some they still had the stock, as the mechanics were just using Dexron still!)(& when people came in with failed gearboxes, they just sent the cars to a specialist for repair). (Most of the other Rover Dealers, I think were using/doing the same! hence the high number of 820's and 825 boxes that fail. (information not being passed back down the line) The mechanics are just normal people and like most other normal people would not know to use a different oil unless told. Where as the 827 everyone just knows, accepts that they use Hondamatic).

Oh dear all those boxes screwed up because the dealers didn't do their homework.

I would beg to say no mechanic there. There would be a data sheet. That data sheet prescribes the required supplies. I would need confirmation in writing from my line manager to not stick to the data sheet. If the data sheets are not present the garage is crap and I would look elsewhere for employment. If they are wrong then its a system error outside my control. I know several fully qualified time served mechanics who have walked over just such idiocy and bullying management. Real mechanics are rare beasts these days, to be replaced by fitters. Garages with fitters are worth avoiding. I can only think of about 8 good garages round here and only two of those have a marque name over the door. Telling. Fortunate am I, to have some mechanical skills!

With dealer networks I think it's even worse than that. I've been hearing about main dealers round here that are walking away from the manufacturer to become eather approved workshops or fully independant because the demands coming down from whatever head office, along with the payments for warranty work they have to carry out is making running a full dealership just too expensive.
