Autobox oil dipstick: Where can i find?

Post by Slagtrooper »

Researching here on my town is almost impossible - Stores, junkyards, etc.

Is there some way to substitute this dipstick?
One with the same measure, of course. Or what is its lenght?

Is the ZF-4HP14 dipstick, my box came without it.

I can tell you that the Volvo 400 series came with this auto box too. As long as the tubes that it goes in are the same, it's likely that it would be the same dipstick.

Can someone post a picture on here of their BX dipstick and I'll tell you if I think it looks the same?

The Volvo one is yellow, and about 8in long if I remember correctly.

Then, I know you'll be able to get one from Lake's Autos. They are a Volvo scrapyard on the A1, near Wyboston. If this isn't near you, they might post, or I could collect next time I go and post to you.

Www.lakes4volvo.co.uk for their address.

I see you are in Brazil!!

I'm happy to send one to you if I can get one here. But first, we'll need a pic of a proper BX one!

Of the Volvo series, we can find here the 460 and 440, the latter is even rarer than BX. The 480 we don't have here, no one imported it. I got surprised that some volvos had the 4HP14 too, but i'm unsure if it fits "plug and play" to the 1.9 8V engine. Now i know i have one more option for finding the box. Is easier to find scrapped 460's than still running ones.

Yes, the BX in Brazil are as we call here, "white flies with blue eyes". I'm struggling with some mechanical details, but i think i will restore it. Mine car: http://www.bxclub.co.uk/forum/viewtopic ... 13&t=19063

Nope, that dipstick is completely different and longer than the 480's so following the Volvo idea is finished.

I forgot about this: I got some parts for my BX from Gary C who recently broke an automatic BX. If he's still got the box he might post the dipstick to Brazil for you.

I think first we may need confirmation that a Mk 1 auto gearbox plus the dipstick are the same for a later MK 2 and if the petrol or diesel variants are also the same.

Aah, Mothman, I see it's your BX at the Chevronic Centre. My red Mk. 1 is keeping it company this week!

Just a good service and a few bits Rob found wrong (vac advance pipe, little leak of oil and coolant).

I'm probably going to put it up for sale when it gets back. It's a shame as this 30 year old car has served me well; I've used it like a modern car with the miles I've put on it and it has never let me down.

I'm starting a new chapter in life career wise and running two old cars just doesn't make sense as I barely have the time for one. I dream I'll end up with a C6 if I keep working hard!

I hope it's the same measure for both, but it's better wait for more info :)

Dipstick from BX16TRS auto with 171c engine.

Overall length - 47 cm

Distance from underside of cap to centre of first ball - 41cm

Distance from underside of cap to centre of second ball - 43.5cm

Cap is circular and has same wording as Mothman's but printed on a metal disc

Overall length being similar, the question is whether the dip length to the first ball is the same and spacing to second. If so, a bit of welding rod or similar could be used to check oil levels.

I have an auto box sitting in the workshop about to be ebayed or scrapped. Wonder what the cost of freight to Brazil would be.

How the price can be calculated? And how can i pay? Because unfortunately i don't have international credit card. Don't know if pay pal works.
Thank you for the measurements, Gary! That's great help!
