Gti 8v Airflow Meter Jetronic broken spring?

Post by rutter123 »

Had the AFM off yesterday to fit a new filter, noticed whilst checking the op of the flap a definate scraping sound inside the unit, tho the flap returns to closed it has almost no spring resistance wotsoever, there is something not right inside, i have removed the 4 screws from the top AFM ecu to find inside a silicone sealed plastic cover, can this cover be removed? I assume the spring is underneath it, if the srping is broke can it be replaced?

It's only a light spring anyway, but it's been a while since I worked on a flapper type so can't recall exactly how little resistance there should be.

Agreed, it cannot be more than light otherwise it cannot respond quickly (or relatively quickly :) ) to demand.
