Help for a newbie! BX Spheres and Soft ride...

Post by blobbyknobby »

just bought this Image

Havent collected it yet, will be a month or so. The owner reports the suspension to be soft and claims all 4 spheres need replaced at once... sounds abnormal. Could it be the accumulator ?

Cheers

In fairness, the suspension SHOULD be soft, it's a BX! But, if it's abnormally soft it's more likly that it has the wrong spheres fitted as they would go hard if failed.

Do you have any idea of the "tick" time of the Pressure Regulator? That would give you the best indication of whether there is an issue with it and the Accumulator Sphere.
I have zero patience for your tedium.

I've just got reports from the owner, only has 50k so assuming original spheres! Didn't mention the tick rate. I find it odd all 4 spheres reporting needing changed at the same time. Thought it sounded more live a valve or accumulator.

Owners often change or have recharged all 4 spheres to maintain maximum comfort, if he hasn't had them done for a while then he is probably correctly reporting that they will need changing or at least have the pressures of all 4 old ones tested, they are not something you would normally change 1 at a time.

The car suspension should be soft. If its hard then it needs 4 new suspension spheres.

If you can hear the pressure regulator ticking quickly (say less than 5 sec) when the car is running then it will need a new accumulator sphere. Its tick time should really be around or over 30 sec.

If its hard & ticks quick then it needs all 5 changing.

If the suspension is soft then I wouldn't worry about it.

& congratulations on buying the car. :)

well it does depend on how soft the ride is, if its wollowy ots either got the wrong spheres fitted, or the damper/s on the spheres have come away
