Octopus

Post by Phil Brook »

Does anyone know where if at all I can get a new octopus? My mechanic has treid but no luck and so is having to repair the existing with new tubing. Trouble is one leak gets fixed and another springs out. The car has been mainly off the road for about 9 months- could inactivity hasten the dreaded rubber rot!!

Where has he tried? People have been getting them from dealers fairly recently, but it often helps if you give them the part number.

Citroen dealers should be able to help if you give them the part number as Mat rightly said, another option is to phone chevronics, as i believe they have them in stock at around 63 quid plus postage.

If you're enquiring by description it's probably best not to ask for octopus to the uninitiated, but 'leak back harness' which is the name given by GSF and other factors.
They used to be available for £27 from GSF but are no longer listed online. I'm not sure whether the rubber quality on these is/was better than the appalling quality of the rubber of their strut returns. :?

Good point about Chevronics - they mentioned they had a batch in (picture from Facebook) on the 12th May!

The GSF ones were actually OK, in genuine Citroen bags and Made in Poland. I got one for about £12 as they were binning them at the time - 2010 I think, maybe 11.

Unlike the Spanish made front strut returns grrrrrrrrr.

When mine broke, I made one.
I measured the diameter of the pipes (there were 3 different sizes from what I remember), Ordered some "oil & fuel hoses" in the appropriate sizes on Ebay, Then ordered some 'T' & 'Y' connectors & plugged everything together. Some of the pipes that needed to go together were the different diameters so I soaked them in hot water so they would go on the connectors. I can't remember if there were 2 or 3 different pipe circuits (your original octopus will tell you that).

So far it seems to be holding up well.

I thought we had decided there were 2 or 3 different types of octopus dependant on year / power steering etc?

Thats very true, although i believe only the late RP numbers octopus is available now, if you have a non -PAS car themn its a case of plugging up one line.
