Ah Kieran you bought that Xm! If I didn't have others on the go I might have gone for that myself. Looks lovely. You enjoying it?

Re: Kierans Mk1 BX 19RD
Hi Max,
My apologies, I have not been on here in a long while!
Yeah really liking the XM alot When it just came up, given the spec it had, I couldn't resist it! Lovely the big diesel engine with lots of torque low down, much more than the 1.6HDi in the same C4 that has the same bhp. Feels like your driving a lot of car. Lovely light power steering though. Just put it into winter hibernation yesterday. My father had a Peugeot 605 with same 2.1TD engine for a while, so that was my preferred spec. I would like one of those too at some point but they are even rarer than XM I think
I think I have enough in keeping two going at this stage, so that's my lot for now.
Company for the BX!

Agreed great looking cars, really good to see that BX has had the work it deserves, slightly kicking myself for not bagging it a coup,e of years ago when I test drove it. Maybe if I'm down that way I mimght come and have a look

Re: Kierans Mk1 BX 19RD
Passed the NCT for another year this morning Well pleased! Also cheap tax now as over 30 years.
As usual they couldn't figure out how to open the bonnet
While there were no advisories, the tester said there was slight play in the steering on the left side. He said it was nothing serious but something to look at. Any ideas of what to look for?
She always gets some attention at the test centre
Best car there

Re: Kierans Mk1 BX 19RD
Hello all,
Its been a while since I was here but unfortunately the mk1 has developed a problem.
There is a split in the return pipe from the accumulator to the resevoir.
This is where the split is (arrow)
I think the part needed is 95 603 421 (shown below, oil back harness). However, this part has a 'T-junction' which doesn't appear to be present in the pipe on my car - it seems to join direct between the accumulator/regulator without branching (it does branch up at the reservoir like on this part). Can anyone explain this? Is there another similar but different (maybe older) part. My car is non-PAS, don't know if that has anything to do with it?
Thanks for the help!!

Re: Kierans Mk1 BX 19RD
Also, on the BX Parts list, all of the pipes similar to 95 603 421 appear to have this T-junction..

Re: Kierans Mk1 BX 19RD
Yes that's the older PAS-model. Later has 4 pipes as I recall, the non-PAS does not have the T-junction. Just plug it with a bolt or something if you're not after 100% original setup.

Re: Kierans Mk1 BX 19RD
Thanks for the suggestion and clarification.
My father fixed this by doing a bit of cutting and joining makeshift pipework and now it works perfectly..
We filled the reservoir back up, probably over filling it and so she was throwing out a bit... even after a number of drives she was still intermittantlky throwing out LHM even though the indicator on the thank was perfect and the light wasn't coming on...
So if you see greenish liquid on the ground, don't assume its not LHM because the light is not on...and say its just discoulored rain water...
..because it could be coolant!! (the flashing coolant light should have been a hint... as well as the abolute lack of heat even with the internal heater up to max)
So it turns out that the blanking cap on the engine block near the engine water inlet-internal heater outlet has failed.
In the red box here
Is this a known or common failure??
Also, while investigating this, we learned that the alternator pulley is important for holding the timing belt on... If it wasn't for the engine mount it would have come off...!
A couple of important lessons learned in the last few days
