Agree with you DW, I always jack in high and in my many years of BXing the struts always have remained extended. If I'm not bringing it down the same day I give the engine a quick burst before doing so to ensure the spheres are fully pressurised for peace of mind but in actuality the back pressure usually lasts days without this.Dollywobbler wrote:Nope. Ah! so setting the suspension to high also locks it out then? 99% of the time I lift my car I am lucky enough to be able to use a vehicle lift, and every time I lift it off the ground a couple of seconds later all 4 wheels retract into the wheel arches. Can I assume if I put the car in high first then this won't happen?

I wouldn't say 'locks it out' as such... that's a little bit of a risky thing to claim.
However when they're left on the highest setting, in my experience BXs do seem to stay up for longer. Maybe this is just because the upper reaches of the struts are stickier through less use, who knows?

The automatic hydraulic returns are progressively shut off within the height correctors at intermediate and high. So leakage on a good system will be very slight over a long period of time. But for safety's sake "belt and braces" must always be used when working under the car and do not rely on this alone.
It is for the same reason that should a failure of the octopus occur whilst out about, putting the car in intermediate will drastically reduce the loss of LHM to enable you to get the car home. "High" would cut LHM loss virtually to nothing but the ride would be appalling and you would risk mechanical damage over distance and at anything other than crawling pace.

In high i believe you can damage the driveshafts, so low speed only.
