Yes, Rutter, this is the car I bought bits from you for - do you still have a body shell for sale?

An update, I have had an exhausting day spent on the phone fending off salvage firms, spent on hold to my insurance company, and trying to find out who wants to take my car and where, all without any direct contact to me from insurance company.

One phoned me on my home phone this morning asking when would be convenient to pick the car up, obviously not knowing the car wasn't at my home address
when I found out what the company was, and where (ASM Thame) I rang them back and demanded to know who gave them my home number and authority to remove my car, they claimed my insurance company emailed them yesterday - the insurance company denied any knowledge.
Other salvage/recycling companies ( Motor Hog, DSA )have been contacting the company (CGM Bedford) holding her at the moment, all without any contact to me from my insurance co. (Sainsburys /Churchill) the car has not yet been seen by an inspector /assessor.

There must be a demand for recycled BX parts that makes the remains of my car worth fighting for :(

Is there a national database for accidents, that also discloses personal information?

The guy at CGM has been great, covering over the tailgate window for me, and giving his realistic opinion on Daisys chances, but also promising me that she will not leave his yard without my permission.

Turns out, as I learned last thing this evening, he has been a CCC member in the past ( I have stickers on the car) and can quite well understand why I would want to keep my rights to the car.

As things stand, Rob has advised that I have the car removed to Chevronics, until he can have a look at her. She will be safe there, even though I accept what the final outcome will be.

Anne Marie, so glad to see you bouncing back in a practical sense whilst still sad I'm sure. Amazingly, even at this time, I can offer something potentially useful: can't get full chapter & verse from phone, go to legislation.gov.uk and search Data Protection Act 1998. Sections 10 gives the right for you to prevent use of your personal information for any use which has the potential to cause harm or distress (IANAL, work in this field as you know and IMO, stress and annoyance under the circumstances are more than ample - Information Commissioner is gunning hard for these types of unwanted call). Section 11 gives you the right to order organisations to cease and desist using your personal information for direct marketing. When you get the calls, be polite, get company details and an email address then hit them with the above in writing and tell them that non-compliance will result in complaint to the Information Commissioners Office who could fine the offending org up to £500,000. Sadly you wouldn't see any of that! This won't stop the unscrupulous, should cut down on repeat calls.

AM it sounds like the third party's insurers may be the 'leak', if your own guys are playing ball. I get about one call a month about 'the accident I had recently' and claims for whiplash!. Now my last accident was in 2009.....and you can only claim in the first 2 or 3 years!. However my partner had one last year so somehow 'they' have my home phone number etc. Note the former accident did not involve the police, but the latter did (head on) and it took only a day or two before the calls started...

'They' being all manner of claims companies purporting to work for 'you'. There is something very rotten in the insurance industry. Another aspect was in '09, the number of times my own insurers wanted me to take on the 'Courtesy Car', which I did not need. They do not exactly take one NO for an answer, they must have tried six times at least, to get me into the waiting Renault against my wishes. They failed to get me to take up the offer.

Do not be bullied, play it straight, but be aware that there seem to be a lot of people making a living, skimming money off in this sector of our 'wonderful financial services'....
There are also some decent assessors etc, so not all rotten, but harder to find the fair guys, more luck of the draw.

I came off my motorbike in 2007. Lost grip on loose gravel. The only people who were aware of this were the police and the A&E dept at the local hospital. Within two hours of being discharged from hospital the phone calls and txt messages started flooding in.

On top of the crap calls that follow a reported accident, there are also single-grey-cell-creatures operating purely speculative scams opening with 'Am I talking to the person at your address who has had a car accident in the last 5 years'. I get these every 3 months or so - and my last and very minor bump was in 1991.

Sorry to hear about your car, idiotic drivers that don't watch what they are doing need their licenses revoking. I see loads around here.

Hope you get something sorted out. Personally if your shell cannot be saved I would get another shell & rebuild it with your car. I would offer you the shell of mulley's txd, But its very rusty & would probably need more work than yours.

Damn shame - I was so glad to see you out with Daisy at the weekend, especially after all the work that's gone into her. I'm just relieved everyone's alright!

The one saving grace about any payout is that it's not your fault - that means that with the evidence you have access to backing up your value claims, your insurance company should be on your side fighting to get a better payout than bottom guide price, which is all the other side will be wanting to pay. I bet they want the car disposed of quick to remove some of that evidence!

A member of our local 2CV group had her Dyane shunted in Bristol a couple of years back. Luckily it got recovered to a specialist who acted on her request to hang onto it as the other party's insurance company sent a vehicle to collect it several times - it got to the stage that he had to hide it in another building and his landlord got involved with threats of prosecution for trespass before they stopped.

I have had Daisy removed to Chevronics for her protection, and my peace of mind.

The team were almost as upset as I was, they have all put so much time and hard work into her.

Daisy is pretty much a BXC legend. Anne Marie had the rear end rebuilt at Rob's a couple of years ago and more recently ( last few weeks ) the front end was rebuilt. A-M's intention was to secure Daisy for another twenty years or so.

I'm glad to hear it has been moved. When my 2CV was shunted up the backside, my insurance company cleared payment to have it shipped straight to my house, and again to take it to a specialist. I think the reason other companies are so keen to get hold of it us purely that they can charge a whopping day rate for storage. It's a corrupt old business - if you get a hire car, you can bet that it'll be at a rate two or three times the high street rate, just because "it can be claimed back off the other side." Which is why EVERYONE'S premiums keep going up.
