Rear wiper...

Post by speedingfine »

I thought while I was here, I'd thoroughly embarrass myself and ask how the heck you get the rear wiper to function. I can't see a button and I've pushed pulled and prodded (what I think) is the correct stalk, to no avail :) It's an 89G 14E if that helps...

It's one of the buttons on the RH side of the instrument pod. On the hatchback it's a wash or single wipe only, it doesn't switch the wiper on permanently as the rear window doesn't tend to get wet above 15mph. If you can't see a switch with a wiper symbol, but you have one with a worn away logo, it's probably that one due to it being regularly pushed.

Concur with Citsncycles, it is the button on the right hand side of the steering wheel below the Hazard one. AFAIK all Mk2 BX were the same in this regard.

Well amusingly this button doesn't press/doesn't look like it's ever been pressed and has no markings whatsoever. I'll take it off tonight and have a look and see if there's a problem, but maybe the rear wiper's a cosmetic addition :D

Ah - the base model IIRC doesn't have a rear wiper, so may very well be fitted with a blanking piece. Perhaps someone has fitted a replacement tailgate in the past from a different model?

I think the base model was not sold in the UK for some time. When I bought my 11 month old 14RE in '89 it was not listed. One sure way to tell is if it has a four speed gearbox! That is a base model spec, and no rear wipe was fitted.

My 14RE didnt have a rear wiper On a B plate. I dont think the engine could produce enough power for that as well.
