Rear suspension cylinder

Post by Alfonse »

Ladies & Gents,

The rear suspension cylinder has failed on 'Rene' the BX and I can't seem to locate a replacement.
1) Does any fellow member have one I can buy?
2) I'm currently in France and intend trying some dealers for NOS items, can someone please help with a Citroen part number?
3) any other ideas or leads welcome....

Thanks in anticipation friends...!

Not easy to get hold of good ones now, sadly i just sold the ones from the tgd om breaking and they are on their way to sweden, using a xantia strut is a common conversion with just a new pipe fitting needed, more info on forum re fitting xantia struts, or google the part number, you never know.

95 563 031 - Non estate (listed as 'left' but they are not handed)
95 599 871 - Estate (again listed as Left, with DIAM 37, and NFP)

I don't know if it is possible to fit an estate strut to a saloon body.

Good luck!

I think the handing is simply the position of the pipes on the gaiter, which can be rotated to suit. I've moved this to the Technical section for ease of future searching.

Dont the estate models have a bigger diameter hydraulic ram? To cope with the extra load? Im sure they will fit a hatch but best to fit a pair,

Estate ones are indeed different - and rarer than saloon ones! I've got a pair of Xantia ones and the boss where the pipe screws in is much larger - I think this needs to be machined down to fit a BX. I also think the Xantia ones are the same size as BX estate versions, so ok for an estate, maybe not a saloon.
Alfonse, whereabouts in France are you? There should be plenty of BXs in breakers. My local breaker (Manche, Normandy) has a few still.
Otherwise try this:

I imagine the effect of fitting estate cylinders on a hatch will be reduced suspension travel, but not to the point that the car will be undriveable. In the short term you could possibly get away with one of each, but I wouldn't want to load it up or dive it hard like this.

Kev (you're in France, right? ;) ) if I transferred funds to you would you be able to obtain the leboncoin ones for me. I'd then pay you handsomely to post them to me here in decidedly English Essex? - assuming Alfonse passes on them?

Yeah, that should be no problem. I'll be passing by Chelmsford sometime in October if you can wait that long....

Ok, pm means we can sort the details out. I have to be sure though, that I'm not going to hack Alfonse off.
