Anyone seen one of these before?

Post by Mothman »

Came with my new motor. Looks like a Citroen bit of kit and is for storing the jack and other kit in the spare wheel and designed to protect it from dirt n grit.

I've seen something similar with CX's, and I believe the scissor jack supplied with various non hydraulic Citroens has a plastic case, but never seen one on a BX before.

Makes sense. My jack set lives in the empty area next to the washer bottle with spare LHM and 2 Lt of clean water and bits of pipe. Gary is incontinent.

The jacks were in the spare wheel, held by a rubber strap with two hooks in the BXs' I have owned.

It's probably from a Xantia or XM. Saxo has the same kind of thing, but only the Xantia/XM (IIRC) have the same type jack as the BX.

That said, if it's XM it'll be slightly too big as the smallest wheels on those are 15".

I'd have to check but I don't think the early XM's at least have one - they have a metal shield on the spare wheel carrir that protects the spare and whatever else is in there from the dirt (until it rusts through and falls off).

Which mine has. Have a look inside the spare wheel Mike, you'll probably find the storage thingy for the jack.

Ah, OK - I'm planning to drop it this week anyway, partly to repairthe carrier and partly to see what size the spare is - it's on the wrong size tyres but the spare is an old Michy so may be the correct size for the car!

The shroud on the wheel carrier will probably just pull apart in your hands Mike, well at least mine did. I just removed the remains and reverted to a carrier akin to a BX's. Wire wheel on a drill and some stone chip satin black. Whilst you're under there, give the undersides a going over with waxoyl.

Didn't get a chance to look at mine, but it's in the barn for the next few days while I give Timex a run, and I plan to go through and sort a few things out before the XM rally.
