BX register? We now have one.

Thanks Leo - Google doc started here, think anyone can input at the moment, although at some future point we'll probably want to put some controls on it to prevent too many errors creeping in (while it's small, these are easy to correct!)

Any/all information welcome, UK registered cars only please, please do NOT add entries with no registration number as these will be deleted. If you don't want to update the document directly, please PM me or Paul with info and we'll put it in there.

I think it may be useful in future to collect other info, e.g. sales histories/amounts for insurance purposes, let's worry about that when we've got the thing up and running with a bit more though :)

If anyone wants to start going through old blog/gallery/sales or other posts to grow this, please feel free!

Great job Sandre and Leo, and team, well done.
You may need the latest version of Google Chrome to access it though.

Added mine and my Dad's. Would it make sense to re-organise it into alphabetical order on the reg numbers? Could be a potential nightmare to find a car once it gets big

I would also suggest we add a 'Date added to register' column, but that's just me.

The Google docs is a temporary solution - rather than constant sorting or asking people who may not know their way round spreadsheets to insert rows (and potentially end up accidentally deleting data) I'm just leaving it for now. As it gets bigger, we'll need to restrict edit access to a few people* and that'll probably be the point where we sort/create filters (so you can see all cars of a particular type only) and hive off the scrapped cars to a separate area so the register is a proper register of 'current' BXs (as opposed to now reincarnated as your fridge ones).

*In the meantime, I'm taking daily backups in case of any disasters :)

EDIT: good idea on the date added, thanks - and done.

It's automatic. Just do what you need to do and close it. If it's going to close un-saved, it warns you first.

I'll add my details, next time I manage to coax the laptop into life. Thanks to whoever set it up. Should prove a valuable resource.

Mark - or anyone else who only has Apple, which won't play nicely with Google: if you can post/PM the following, we can get it on the register for you.

Reg
Model
Date1reg
ORGA (RP) No.
Colour
Engine size
Drive (RHD/LHD)
Body (Hatch/Estate)
Transmission
Status (On road/temp SORN, Scrapped, Exported, etc)
Last/current owner
Notes (keep it short please!) - e.g. personal plates, former registration numbers

We'll look at getting other stuff on there as time goes on :)

Excel/spreadsheet is great on a computer but doesn't really tell you anything longer term you can't easily run queries such as surviving numbers, number of a particular model, number of a particular fuel etc so it might be worth investing the time in a data base solution for longer term gains. And no I'm not volunteering, created one vehicle register, don't feel a need to do it again.

A dated 'current status' could be useful, so you know when a car is recorded as scrapped/off the road/exported etc and a field for the origin of the data ie is it from an ebay ad, gumtree ad, spotted in a scrap yard, side of the road, owner submitted etc

I think longer term you'd be better off with a form on this website that automatically enters the information into a database, which provides anonymised data. As it is there is no security, if someone went in and scrambled the data then it might be difficult to recover. It also provides a relatively easy way to clone a registration, though im not too sure thats a worry for a BX!

I'll add information for scrapped cars when i get a chance (there is quite a long list) but i'm not willing to put 'live' cars into a public work sheet.
