Pressures are different front and rear for the XM. 2.1 bar for the fronts and 1.9 for the rears.

My Mitzi is different front n rear too. Much higher rears, especially if you are carrying a load of logs as i did several times today.

Most of my cars have had different pressures front to rear, usually higher at the front, although 2CV's etc. are the other way round.

Have you checked the pressures on the XM Mike? They seem sensitive to incorrect pressures. I increased the pressures in mine whilst towing BXClub HQ and the ride was terrible whilst travelling solo.

They're set as per the sticker on the a pillar, but of course it's on slightly lower profile tyres than it should be so I'll have to experiment a bit until I get some correct size tyres for it.

Checked the K&N air filter today, it was a lot grubbier than i thought it would be, gave it a quick hoover to make the air flow a bit better. I've always found the bottom of the airbox rather odd, it has a deep 8-10 inch cyndrical funnel hole which goes wide at the opening to being narrow at the bottom. Any ideas why it exists? It does collect crap in the bottom, it was full of shit when i 1st got the car, had a bit more debris in the bottom this time around, but didn't have the hoover outside so will leave that til next time.

I'm keeping a close eye on fuel economy since i've started my daily commute to work, i've also been driving much slower & only doing around 2000 rpm in 5th gear which equates to about low 60mph. I'm hoping it will improve the cars mpg doing the commute. Once done, i'll report back with my mpg figure, & then i'll do a normal 70mph on the next tankful & compare. I've also stopped booting the car quite a bit at the mo to see if mpg improves as well.

I was always impressed with the TXD, i could get on average over 700 miles on a tankful which was predominately commuting mileage, so hoping the C5 will get close to the TXD's fuel economy which for the size of it & how heavy it is would be pretty impressive.

Mark - i've got one of those Vax Rapide carpet cleaners which i've used with great success on other cars, so will be giving that a try on the C5's car seats ( & carpets which are still very grubby) in comparison to the rest of the interior. The previous owner appears to have used this car to carry all manor of shit around in it. I've still got some white stuff on the rear seats, i can only presume it must be paint. Whats the best way of getting that off the fabric seats without ruining them?

Interesting about the other cars tyre pressures, just so used to the BX's & the mini's which have the same front & rear pressures, so never even thought to check, i'm hoping it may help with fuel economy.

So the last tankful i managed a pitiful 660 miles for 65.4 litres, that equates to a dissapointing 45.8mpg. This was just commuting mileage which consists of 40 mile round trips along, a, b & dual carriageway. I was driving pretty fucking steady as well, keeping revs down & not using too much turbo boost when accelerating & keeping my top speed down on the dual carriageways to around the 60mph mark by doing 2000rpm in 5th gear. I wonder if by using a bit more boost the engines efficiency is better? This is about what i was getting with a fucked MAF, shagged exhaust, 12 year old cat & pre-remap, i wasn't expecting fuel economy gains of 10mpg, but i was hoping to be at least hitting 50mpg :(

The C5 killed a Pheseant today, dual carriageway doing 70mph, i was on inside lane with a car overtaking, it must have been about 1 car length in front of me when it ran across the road from the central reservation, it got past the outside car but i whacked it. Hell of a bang on driver side front bumper, luckily nothing broken, at least it was a quick death :( Thats the 1st thing i've hit in fucking years thank gawd.

Better than hitting a deer, and I've hit four so far, fortunately none hard. They do come out across the road round here a lot - always nice when your doing 50+..... One missed my 14RE by less than a meter, at 40 mph.

Managed to avoid badgers too, and they have some weight. Actually got a pair of pigeons a couple of years ago and saw the mess on the return journey. Car was OK, they hit the bumper and went under the wheels....

Your fuel consumption seems pretty poor. My neighbour reckoned he was getting about 20 mpg with same type engine but that was with a smokin' turbo  His 406 estate was pretty good, until a horse backed into it!.

The economy figures in the book do kinda equate to the economy that i'm getting, just a bit dissapointed as i was hoping for better. It is a large heavy car though with an old diesel engine (compared to modern engines), i guess everything is relative?

With the same engine in the C8 I now get about 39–40mpg at 70–75mph. When we had it remapped it was only doing about 36mpg but there was a big improvement after it was given a service with new air filters fuel filters etc. I do wonder whether in the remapping the air filter somehow got clogged up. In France and Italy at present with cruising in the mid 80s we are getting 38mpg. The C8 is quite a bit heavier and has a larger frontal area than the C5 so I would thought the figures are pretty comparable.

I managed to ride over a badger one winter's night on an early 20's New Hudson bicycle - it twisted the handlebars, buckled the back wheel, dislodged the chaincase and jarred the oil lamps badly enough to blow them out! The badger hardly paused as it carried on across the road - I didn't feel like following it to see if it was alright!

My mate John, Who's C5 was a couple of cars down from you at Stratford gets 50mpg out of his 2.2 HDi C5, but talking to his son I discovered he doesn't go faster than 45mph!

The clubman managed just over 61mpg without paying any particular attention to fuel economy, i get in, cruise & boot it whenever required. It'd be interesting to drive it to work & back to see what sort of economy it would get, but that would mean wifey having to drive the c5, i don't think that will appeal much to her tbh :(
