bumper repairs

Post by benifotrem1 »

I'm sure that this question has been asked umpteen times BUT what is the best way to repair the bumpers on my bx gt? Each bumper has a split on the corner apx 3cm long.

Cheers

To be honest bud, we do need to see pictures, they tell a 1000 words. If you also want a really honest answer, new bumpers.

I would prefer to keep the original bumpers and the split is high up and not to big.
Up want to keep the car as original as possible.

Ooh and thanks for the quick reply.

Loving this site.

Try BX chat, its posted as a sticky as how to post pics. And as how to repair plastic bumpers, well, replacement is really the only way.

Use a soldering iron to melt and weld it back together then light filler , sand and repaint.

If you have smooth finish bumpers then they can be repaired as above. You can get kits of plastic rods and a hot air gun to repair larger areas, but I've never tried it myself. The difficult part is if you have textured bumpers like Mk1's and earlier Mk2's as recreating that texture can be difficult.

Take them off and plastic weld them from the inside leaving the outer finish.

That's probably the best bet until you find some. Dunno about out there, but Mk1 bumpers seem thin on the ground here, with certain MK2 ones not much better.
