headlamps

Post by benifotrem1 »

Hi everyone,

Just opened the bonnet of the BX and the headlamp lens fell on the floor!

Are the headlamp the same for series one and two?

Thanks

Yup the seal on the front glass can go. If you are lucky and the glass does not break it is possible to bond it back on. New lights will have better reflectors as these 'fade' over time.

If the glass is intact then you can use neutral cure silicone rubber to stick it back in. If the reflector needs cleaning then make sure any silicone rubber has fully cured first then remove the unit from the car and pour a small amount of isopropyl alcohol into the unit through the hole where the bulb fits and swill it around and across the silvering for a while keeping the hole where the bulb fits closed with something like a polybag.
Pour out the alcohol and leave the unit in the sun for perhaps half an hour to make sure all traces of alcohol have gone.

Or set up a search on eBay for new headlamps.

I think windshield glue is better solution - it is a bit more expensive then silicone, but holds like hell. Something like this:

Exterior door trims and rear wheelarch plastic skirt on my car were glued back after that pole crash in public parking - they are impossible to fall off,
