Bx instrument panels

Post by xjford »

Hello all and greetings from finland.

I recently salvage a 1.6 gti as a parts car for my 16 trs

In the trunk i found 2 instrument panels

The first, i think??? Is quite common early model with rotating speedo and a worm-like rev counter.

The other on is more interesting looking. It has 7 round jaeger gauges and a lot of warning/indication lights all fitted to a silver color backplate.

I tried google but with little result. Does anyone know in which models they have uses it, and is it rare?

Thanks in advance,

Mikko

Could you post a picture of them both on here?

The first one sounds like a MK1 clock, but I'm not sure on the other.

Did the second look like this?

If so, very rare but probably a limited market!

Ah, I think it was a Citroen accessory panel to make it look like the 4TC arrangement. Probably worth a fair bit given what the front arm rest just went for!

In days of old tuning your car meant as many dials, switches and lights as possible. My Mini Marcos had a full dashboard of them and was definitely 5 miles an hour faster for it! I like it.

i have never seen either of the above panels before,
maybe the second one s a home brew jobbie for a kit car, using GS dials, as they are the same type/style

It is actually a genuine Citroen accessory. As pointed out elsewhere it's supposed to make your car look like a 4TC (although why you'd want to make your car look like a piece of fat, bloated ugliness that was also the worst group B rally car that ever existed, I've really no idea :) )

You've not looked at the sector times it set compared to the rest of the competition have you?

When it wasn't ripping its self to pieces, it was quite competitive! Just a shame it didn't like to finish stages.

In all honesty Vanny, I don't think I've ever felt a need to avail myself of that information. I was just trying to get a rise out of the local 4TC fan club. :)

You'll note I couldn't fault you on the fat and ugly bit!

The dials are so basic, and kind of bland, but cool in a 70s sci-fi show kind of way.

Thunderbird Two used switches and pee lights out of the Goggomobil saloon, and interior material as seen on Trojan.
