For registeratering, yeah. For publication, this can be flexible. I have changed the poll title to make this a bit clearer, apologies to anyone who already voted and might now want to change that - please PM me, I won't tell anyone.

Although full reg is certainly winning at the moment, I would still not be comfortable about making this openly/publicly available without the owners' permissions or unless the car has been scrapped (Register part deux when I get round to splitting 'em up). I voted year letter + numbers, year letter + letters - the second is my preferred option having an indication of where registered is kinda nice.
