Spheres

Post by Ian_Fearn »

I'm going to be replacing all the spheres on my TZD and i thought i'd ask for some advice on whether to go with GSF supplied Amtex spheres or Pleiades re-gassed spheres.

The information below was provided by a chap under the name of RG on the XM club forum. This was after 47k, the numbers in the brackets are what they should be and the original source of the sphere and the other numbers are what the spheres actually produced after 47k. Makes for interesting reading if nothing else.

Pressures in Bar.

Fronts (Cit. recharged) 18/20 (should be 55)

Front centre (Amtex new) 30 (70)

Rears (Cit. rehcarged) 5/3 (40)

Rear centre (Amtex new) 20 (50)

Anti-sink (Cit - never recharged/replaced in 114K...) 22 (50)

and...

Accum (Amtex new) 3 (!) (62)

So then, would it be better to buy Pleiades spheres or the Amtex ones? Has anybody had any detailed experience. I've bought Amtex in the past.

Hi Ian

I have been using '3rd party' spheres for a while now and have never had any probs. I can't remember the brand that are on the car at present, but I remember that they are made in Belgium. When I got all 5 spheres last year they cost £20 each inc VAT. :D

Now that you mention the brands, IHFS rings a bell! AS I said, they seem ok.
