Pipe flaring tool - SE England

Post by Dominic »

i've just liberated a piece of high pressure steel pipe from a GTI at my local breakers to replace a holed one on the TZD. Outer diameter is about 7.5mm. it forms a loop from the regulator and is bracketed to the air box tray on the nearside. Trouble is, the liberated one was so corroded at the regulator end, I buggered the nut, and had to hacksaw the pipe off, so the end is going to need re-making. The flaring on the pipe is about 1cm from the end and looks almost like a plumbers olive. Does such a tool exist and does anyone in my area (Kent/Sussex) have access to such a thing?

I know someone who has a tool for this, just into the edge of Hants,W Sussex. Why don't you ask Citronut?, he will have the tool and maybe can make a new pipe anyway. He's probably closer to you.

Brilliant, thanks Malcom. Are you up for a bit of one on one pipe flaring? If so when's good for you? Cars using more LHM than diesel at the moment, despite my sticking plaster repair!

Which tool have you got, Malcolm? I was looking for one myself but I think the ones on ebay only do 3.5mm and 4.5mm.

Rob, I got mine from this guy

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CITROEN-BRAKE ... 1101761892

Contacted him directly (and collected as it was close) and he was able to provide various extra flares, though they weren't exactly cheap. I didnt get the 6mm flare but i'm pretty sure he could get them. Its made by Bond Engineering in Nuneaton i think, took a few extra days to get the additional flares (SAE and DIN)

thats exactly the same as mine and the same people,

but i purchased mine directly from them ordered over the dog and bone,

i initially inquired over the phone if they could supply the 6.5 die and mandril to got with this kit,

the lady i spoke to was very very helpful and put me Wright ( sorry for the pun   )( as the company is Wrights Auto supplies of Coventry ) telling me it is 6.35 not 6.5,

she said there supplier also the manufacturer of this tool is local to them and on a two week shut down at that time, she said she would let me know if the 6.35 parts could be supplied once the company were back from there breeak,

i had forgotten all about this when one day i had a call back from the lady at Wrights saying it was available,

and the total price was i think £185 including carrige to St Leonards on sea,
so i payed with my debit card and the kit arrived a few days later
