Found me a new local Citroen specialist. Worked at Helix and cut his teeth on BX's, Xantias and the odd XM. He is working with Kerry - my regular general purpose mechanic: so not a bad result. I asked if he'd fit the octopus et al. and he seemed unfazed, saying he'd do that and a couple of other jobs on the car too while he had it. Talk about leap of faith but being local makes a huge difference.... booked in for next Friday... Then there's the small task of getting the ZX though another MOT: but that's another story.

Thats great Phil, having someone like that who kows his oats and whom you can trust with your pride and joy is just the job. Hope i can find someone the same in Cornwall. Otherwise Malcolm will have to live in a tent nearby!!

:) Here's hoping he does in fact know his oats and I don't end up regretting it! But, if he can do the the fitting of all that pipework and the car's LHM-tight at the end of it, I'll be happy.

It might be useful to keep the back of your mind that the book time for octopus fitting is 3 hours.

I know the whole lot is going to cost, and then some, yes ... hopefully it'll last as long as I keep the car, which at this rate will be some time! I'm not going through this again lol!

(Incidentally to be honest, Chevronic's quote was very tempting - very reasonable, but logistically it's very difficult for me to arrange, so local is better for me).

One of my local specialists (who do know their BXs', PTS Developments, Wokingham) did the Octopus on mine a couple of years back in 2 hours. That is their standard time, so stuff the 'book' time!. The key is a good ramp - it is not difficult just a bit fiddly, and you need access underneath. Hence a bit tricky for those of us without ramps and/or pits. The little Octopus or Squid is easy to do yourself.

Worth doing Phil, on that nice motor.

The silly money spending continues... This time a pair of good condition Citroen headlight protectors ....

But as I put brand new lights and indicators on the car, probably a reasonable thing to do (he said, trying to justify £30 spent lol!)... :)

BX in for it's re-cephalopodding... an LHM change and oil change too. It's having a good check over to see if anything else needs attention - I hope it doesn't but I want to be as sure as I can be.

In the meantime I'm giving the Speedlines a quick clean, touch-in and polish (can't afford time or justify money for a proper refurb yet) and getting these fitted: http://www.klebertyres.co.uk/gb/The-Ran ... /Quadraxer

I haven't really driven it much since getting it over 6 months ago... I want to get behind the wheel and burn some diesel!

First thing I do on any new car Phil, it really brightens up the front of the car and also helps you see better at night!

The Xantias lamps were like candles (a known issue), a pair of new old stock lamps with upgraded bulbs and the difference is amazing!
Lots of Motors, mostly semi broken....

I must say, with the enhanced Philips bulbs the illumination is quite adequate. :)

Good to have fogs that work even though I will probably never use them! (Don't get much fog round here).

Foggy today....

BX in at the workshop though, lol

Something pleasant happened yesterday on an otherwise mundane trip to the shops. I drove the Rover into the car park and there, right infront of me , parked up was a white BX TZD turbo hatch with a tow bar... I had to look twice as I thought it was mine! But no, this was a K plate.... The space next to it was clear so I parked the car next to it (wish I'd been in the BX it'd been a good photo!). The owner was in there, waiting it turned out, for his wife while he stayed with the dog... (and had a crafty fag). (*Two things there that would guarantee the interior of my BX at lest smells better!*). Anyway, got chatting: He was a mechanic - lives a few miles away and his usual wheels are a Discovery, but a few weeks ago he decided to clear his garage and the BX that'd been in there for four years had to go. But he decided to MOT it as it seemed OK and sure enough it passed with no advisories. We discussed the BX - turns out he really likes them and is glad he didn't give up on this one. Apparently he keeps getting approached by people admiring the car - and in some cases asking him (almost pleading in a couple of cases) to sell the car to them!

He said he'd been on the internet and a) was shocked to see virtually no sign of any for sale, and b) when he did - he was surprised at the values.

Apparently he's going to keep the car and run it as his daily.

We'll probably see each other around. Next time I hope I'll be in my BX!

Update - for those who might care lol - the BX is still undergoing work: The octopus and it's relations have been changed but it sprung another leak - clearly because of all the disturbance: this time a metal pipe near where the curly bit is near the front subframe area - but a new pipe has been fabricated and fitted. And it was fine. Until the car was once again off the ramp and it's sprung another leak. SO it's up on the ramp again. Much swearage from the guys doing it, but they say it'll all be done and it won't need doing again...

All I can say is I hope the leak isn't from the rear... Why, oh why.....................

So long as it's all done in time for the X-Rally I'll be happy.
