Went to Mark Lightfoots this saturday for a health checkup & 3 errors found, one was something to do with the brakelights, but they were working fine, so that was cleared. Can't remember what one of them was, the other was an engine temperature issue which was reading very low, a manual reading also showed the coolant temperature as being too low. A change of thermostat soon sorted that issue out, hopefully with the engine getting upto the correct temperature, it should help with the fuel economy, so i'll report back on how many mpg my next tankful does.

The handbrake switch on the C5 and Peugeot 407 can be problematic. Result on the low temp issue.

I'd quite like some K&N stickers Tim, so I can plaster them all over the 16v because I AM SO SCENE LOL.

I now have a C5 too, did my headlamp bulb the other day and it was a bloody nightmare. Then the other one went immediately, so I have ordered some proper Osram ones which hopefully will last a while, and will fit them when I'm feeling brave...

Went to look at a C5 VTR HDi estate on the weekend for my business partner, as his 306TD expired last week. It had 100k on the clock, up for £1500 in Icelandic Grey.
I've not really spent much time around them before, but it was good to see that Citroen were recycling BX dashboards to make the centre consoles on the C5!

Didn't buy it in the end, found a 200k mile 407SW HDi 138 for £1600 that we managed to chip him down to £1100 on. Actually quite a nice car, the 407. I expect it'll go wrong for fun though!

I don't suppose Tim its a 33-2539 which fitted your daily? If it was, i could have done a better deal than what you got, next time eh ;)

Djoptix, which model & year have you got? They're bit of a swine, mind you i was doing mine in the dark with a torch, haha. Next time around i reckon i could probably change them in about half an hour for both sides. I found those damn bulb clips to be a pain in the arse, i couldn't fit the fuckers back in, now i know how to do it.

Jesus, £1100 for a 200k car, must be southern prices, i got my C5 with 112k for £850, i had to spend the same again though in repairs, oops, haha...

Fair enough, but to put that mileage into context, it'll take me approx 7 years to get to 200k & the purchase price differential is only £250, hmmmm, i'd still choose the older lower mileage car.

Although we haven't had much snow this year, what i have noticed is the C5 with these Dunlop tyres is the worst car i've ever had the displeasure to drive, its got literally fuck all grip. Ok, it's got a 205 profile tyre, but they are shocking, so i've now purchased & gotten fitted some shiny new Goodyear Ultragrip 8's courtesy of MyTyres.com for £62 each. Can't wait for the next snowfall (should be tomorrow) to see how much better the car is in the white stuff.

To give you an idea of how crap the car/tyre combo was, when the front loses grip & i'm literally doing less than 10mph, there was naff all i could do to slow the car down, re-gain grip, it just turned into a 1.3ton lump & just carried on plowing on into a direction i didn't want to head towards. Luckily for me the other driver was very understanding, that was literally the first accident i've ever had in my life & i couldn't fucking believe it as it was the slowest couldn't do fuck all about it moments :( Anyway, hopefully this type of shit is all behind me now, the C5 is now sporting some extra scratch marks as a result of getting friendly with an Astra....

My C5 was poop in the snow too Mulley, I think it had Lassa's on at the time. My old doblo van could run rings round it.

I had Dunlop tyres as the original fitment on my '82 Metro: when they needed replacing and though there was still some tread left, the steel braid was poking out of the tyres in several places  A new set of Michelins completely transformed the handling and I started to really enjoy having my one and only brand new car for the first time. I made up my mind there and then never to run on Dunlops - not ever.

My old Athena had Dunlops (Sumitomo Rubber Company) on the front when I bought it and they were OK'ish but very light steering. Never actually had a problem with them, but much preferred the replacement Michelins. At least they were quiet unlike those Goodyear GT70s'...

The Dunlop summer tyres i've got are superb in the wet & dry, just not on anything thats white. It's this model: http://www.mytyres.co.uk/cgi-bin/rshop. ... p=R-231979

Snow chains are a waste of time unfortunately as the snow is never deep enough to need them where i live & because it's so unpredictable, one minute the conditions could be crap & the snow chains are ace, the next minute there's hardly any snow & all you hear is the chains clanking away on the road surface. If i was living in Scotland in the middle of nowhere at some altitude, then i'd have some, winter tyres are usually fine for the depth i normally get up in Derbyshire/South Yorkshire way.

Tyre technology has moved on a smidge since 1982 ;)

Try dropping the tyre pressures Mulley. It made a big difference traction wise when I had my 407.
