i personally would not go anywhere near that garage again, as they obviously know nout about hydralic citroens, and may be even push bikes

As you are in Manchester, it would be worth your while to give Doug at Westroen a ring, he is in Manchester, been there myself and don't think there is anything he doesn't know about our cars.

Thanks again for all the replies.

I have fixed the brakes (well mostly).

I bled them out again & an absolute load of air came out of both front calipers, so they obviously didn't know what they were doing when bleeding them out. Now they had been bled again the brake delay has gone.

I pulled the rubber boots off both calipers & found something potentially disturbing, the spring, that clips around the handbrake rod/ lever to push it off, is missing on the RH caliper. Is that a problem? The mechanism appears to all work as it should.

While I had the boots off I put some more greese in there, although it was quite good anyway.

Also the handbrake has auto adjusted up on the RH caliper, but not the LH one, so its pulling the left cable more than the right one. I followed the instructions above to adjust the handbrake. Any suggestions why or what else to do?

you might find it has not adjusted up on the side were the lever return spring is missing/broken,

the calipers do not adjust up if the lever is not in the fully off position

Have you considered reporting this garage to trading standards?

I might not want them to do work for me, but would certainly not be happy about a rear view mirror hanging off, or wires disconnected. Other things are more difficult to prove though, as their counter argument may be that now you have an MOT and that all the work was required. :-(
