Strut Issue

Post by Dominic »

I have a catastophic leak of LHM which is pouring down the inside of the off-side strut gaitor - took 3 litres of LHM to get the 40 miles back from work last night - any insight most welcome!

Well not as chronic, but I have a front strut that is passing a lot of LHM. It only does so at a certain height. So I think one of the inner seals is finding a damaged area of strut and leaking at that point. So I am battling my way to the spares car in the briers to get at my spare strut out of it. I dosged changing the last one, but apparently they are pretty simple to change.

Maybe in your case an inner seal has completely failed.

Sounds like the outer rod seal has failed, recon strut or seal kit needed.

Whereabouts are you Dominic? If you're nr to Barry @ Bourne Citroen he can repair struts with this problem, if distance is an issue, i'm sure he'd be happy if you posted it etc...

Many thanks - I'm not close to Bourne, but I am close to Malcolm, to whom I am truly indebted! Just for the record the longest part of this job was finding someone to sell me a 36mm socket, which I eventually did, only to find that I couldn't undo the nut, as the strut insides were just turning with the nut - fortunately Malc had one with a top, meaning that the whole plot can just drop out through the wheel arch - job done! May be an idea to mail the old one off to Bourne so I've got a spare!
