280,000k acheived t/d

Post by rutter123 »

The tzd turbo turned 280k's today always said i would take it to 300k's, clocking up 500+ miles a week, still running sweet with no issues, hail the XUD7TE. Thats approx 40 oil changes, and 7 cambelts of which 4 ive done whilst in my ownership. Fantastic.

208,000 miles and going strong on the grey TZD - I've done half of those, and planning to do a lot more yet!.
The white one's at about 200k as well. The 106 is on 190k, so is the Land Rover. Fair to say I'm not afraid of high mileage motors - even my BMW bike has 104k on it!

Hi kevr the t/d was on 126k when i got it some 8 yrs ago, never needed any more than regular oil/filters, 40k c/belt changes, now on its 3rd clutch, ive always brought cars/bikes on condition not mileage, my daughters old 206 (now scrapped) clocked up 180k, my wifes toyota rav4 has near 200k, i was a Central London based despatch rider in the 90's and my Honda cx500 clocked up 230,000, one of the other guys had a bmwk75 with well over the 200's on it, i then got a new kawa gt750 shaft which i put over 100k in just under 2 years, so yours should have plenty of life in it yet.

You're right - we stripped the RS motor at 100,000 miles for a magazine feature, to measure the wear. There wasn't any! Everything inside was in tolerance for a new motor! The exception was one damaged cam lobe, for some reason. Put it b ack together with new rings and bearings (because someone else was paying...) so it should easily be good for the same again. It's the electrics that are going to start giving trouble soon - I've got a new old stick loom to fit, but it's for a non-ABS model so I need to make up a sub-loom for the ABS.
Wish I could find my old CX500 from 1986!

I paid £300 for mine in 1986 (it was an X reg), rode it two-up and grossly overloaded to Pompeii/Naples and back via the south of France, moved all my worldy goods to Portsmouth on it when I went to college there in the autumn, and sold it just before Xmas for £500!

Never toured on the cx tho i guess it would be more than adequte at the job, i once had a ride on a pals cx650turbo, now that was quite a step up from the bike i had at the time, a humble cb250rs (the bike that i started my courier work on) 96 was my last euro tour with mates on bikes at the time i had a vfr750fj on an f plate, an rg500 for the nicer weekends. Sadly my biking days ended in 98 after a nasty accident and i hung up my hat for the last time.
