Roof panel replacement

Post by assembled »

Hi,
do anyone have any experience with roof panel replacement?

People say it is spot welded under front windshield and trunk lit (I can confirm that) and glued under the plastic roof liners.
Questions:
How to remove the roof liners?
Is it true about the gluing?
Will body retain geometry with roof panel removed or should it be reinforced during operation?
What glue should be used afterwards?
Is there anything else?

Thanks!

Reason of panel replacement: I really love the BX sunroof, unfortunately mine does not have one. I am talking about berline roof as there are some differences compared to break, I suppose. Currently I have windshield removed and will be replacing trunk lid thus part of the preparatory stripping is already done.

The only help I can give is that one way of removing glued panels is to use wooden wedges tapped in with a hammer. We glue aluminium panels on truck bodies using a one-pack polyurethane adhesive sealer. The Wurth stuff is excellent.

Great advice! Wonder whether it would work on the plastic roof covers.

The plastic trims locate into the roof frame with attached "pegs" - like a keyhole slot. They will break off which is of no real consequence. Tape along the edge of the trims on the flat off the "door frames". Cut along under the trim with sharp knife/saw blade (the tape will help to protect the paintwork). The trims are brittle so don't hit them too hard if you are going to resort to violence. Once new roof is in place a good sealant/mastic can be used to put them back on. Use duct tape or similar to hold them in place while curing takes place.
