ABS Sensors
ABS Sensors
Vehicle is a BX GTi, problem diagnosed by my local auto electrician appears to be faulty nearside front ABS sensor.
Having trawled through posts on the subject, I cannot find any definitive answer to the question of how to source a replacement. The item (still) listed by Ignition Car Parts Ltd has been rejected by another member as being incorrect, and that thread expired without a conclusion several years ago. Parts for ZX and Xantia still advertised, but has anyone actually had success in substituting them ?
Any ideas ? All input welcomed.

Re: ABS Sensors
-snipped previous erroneous post-
I think it's likely to be a wiring fault. I got round the problem by splicing a new cable in between the plug and pretty close to the sensor. However my problem was at the rear, the front sensors may actually fail rather than the wiring.

Re: ABS Sensors
I bought a complete set of ABS sensors and ECU for my BX but chose not to use them. Used, but tested OK.
I will sell if you like, just PM me.

There is an ABS badge on the tailgate you'd have remove too in that scenario.Tim Leech wrote:Or just remove the bulb!
ABS is standard fit on a GTi - won't the tester's information flag this up anyway?

Re: ABS Sensors
Yes it should, I believe they can be wired through the oil pressure switch not that I would suggest or condone such an idea.Way2go wrote:ABS is standard fit on a GTi - won't the tester's information flag this up anyway?Tim Leech wrote:Or just remove the bulb!

Re: ABS Sensors
Removing the bulb and the badge will not hide the ABS unit under the bonnet will it?

Re: ABS Sensors
The plug at the end of the cable is still readily available, so it is possible to take a Xantia (or some Peugeot) ABS sensors, cut off the plug and put a BX style one back on.
For reference, the sensors are branded FoMoCo and made by ATE,although i have never been able to cross reference against the original Ford car.

Re: ABS Sensors
In my experience Mick's Garage don't really stock them. Once you've ordered and paid, you then get a refund because they "discover" they're not in stock. I think they just list every part under the sun so that they show up in google searches and the like...Geoffrey Gould wrote:Hi, Micks garage.com Apear to stock ABS sensors, listed as being in stock. Re: ABS Sensors
Peugeot 405 sensors are the same, but with a different electrical connector. but this is not a problem if you can use a soldering iron.
As suggested above, it's probably he cable that has broken rather than the sensor.
It is worthwhile making the ABS work, it could save your car (or you) from serious damage.

Hope all is well with you and looking forward to the festive break. You haven't by any chance still got a rear ABS sensor?
Best wishes,
Jonathan
