Re: Replacement of a nearside door mirror unit
Possibly one of the easiest things you can do. Doorcard off (on a mk2), undo the screws and wires (if fitted), and remove mirror. 30min job if you take your time.

Re: Replacement of a nearside door mirror unit
Many thanks Kitch. By 'doorcard' do you mean the whole of the door lining? or just the 11/2 inch black plastic disc. I have had that disc off but the screws do not seem very accessible. Sorry for my ignorance.

The door card is the whole of the interior side of the door. Remove speaker grille and remove speaker, two torx screws under the armrest and then remove the door locking button/ knob on the top of the door card. Run your fingers along the edge of the door card to locate the plastic clips that hold it onto the door frame and pull away, then lift up the door card. The mirror is held on with two further screws. Reverse the process and job done.

Actually you don't need to remove the speaker, just leave it in the card. There are two torx under the speaker grille though and one high up near the mirror. There are THREE torx holding the door handle and these are angled, make sure you align correctly on replacement. You may need to jiggle it a bit to get it to sit over the door opening lever moulding. Also just watch the wiring routing when replacing the card around the speaker area so it all tucks in sweetly. You may need to press the card quite firmly to the window glass at the top of the card, to get it to sit properly and align over the door plunger. and sit correctly for the 'fir tree' receptor holes.
The mirror stalk brush part can also be made to pop of if needed as you will see.
