Peugeot 405 4x4 driveshafts fit Citroen BX 4x4?

Post by assembled »

Who knows whether 1.9l Peugeot 405 4x4 driveshafts fit Citroen BX 4x4? I am unable to find any solid info and part numbers in CItroen and Peugeot catalogues differ.
I have an offer to buy some 405 spares and don't know what to do except to pull out pieces from my BX and compare on the spot.

In a word no, The 405 drive shafts are longer than the BX ones. The inner shafts also differ on the Peugeot and Citroën transfer boxes, so unless you get the diff lock type shafts or use the Peugeot transfer box they are useless.

The outer CV joints on the front & rear & the rear inner ones however, are all the same as the BX ones. If you do some disassembling, then you can make something to fit. Just make sure they are for a Torsen diff or there might be another difference.

Hope that helps.

Do you mean the rear ones have different inner parts? Or front one as well? I though transfer boxes are completely interchangeable between BX and 405. At least Achilles heel also know as transfer shaft is interchangeable. Right?

Peugeot has a transfer box with viscous lock, maybe that is different? But that box is only used in Mi16x4 AFAIK.

Yes, only Mi16 had viscous coupling, regular 405x4 had the same system as BX in front. ABS BX has torsen in the rear and non-abs 405 has lockable diff. Do not know about non-ABS BX rear though. Maybe same as 405 non-ABS?
