IGNITION AMPLIFIER BX GT 1.9

Post by Tim Leech »

I'm going to throw one on the GT for good measure as the carb has been stripped and its in good order,

My car has a ducellier ignition, does this have a bearing on it chaps?

Ive already changed the coil to no avail.

Thanks

No, the distributor type won't matter - Bosch or Ducellier. This affect cap type and rotor arm though and maybe lead ends.
However there may be different number of pins on the amplifier as there are for coils. Check how many you have. I know my 1.6 has a 7 pin coil and there are 4 pin ones out there...
Some advertised 1.9 amplifiers (modules) have 3 pins some 7..... they can also partially fail, like coils giving misfiring bad carburation symptoms. I know of two 1.6s' that have had this problem.

One other thing worth checking is the vacuum advance/retard tube from distributor to carburettor, as these often perish or can fill with oil from a leaking distributor....
BTW you'll still find the carb refurb worthwhile as your petrol consumption will be a lot better :) once the main misfire is sorted!.

In what respect? The amp?

It's got a Bosch 7-pin amp, though only 6 pins are wired.
