Mk1 wanted.I think.......

Post by madjoiner »

I fancy a mk1 BX saloon preferably but would consider estate.
I think I want one but not sure if I'm getting myself into something more than my talents! and probably more bother with the wife......
Opinions gratefully received.
Steve.

You may be waiting a while or need to look further afield, there's plenty in France.

You should get one . They are very different.

You will struggle to find one and it will probably need restoring. They are getting rarer in France too so much so that a dutch guy I met at 2012 struggled to find a decent dtr .weirdly gts seem more common there...(higher spec car so better cared for?)

If you'd been to wetherby ccc northern rally them some crazy guy was offering rides in his mk 1..

Mk 1,s very thin on the ground, your'e most likely to find a complete shed or the complete opposite.

Aye so get saving! As you say either way it will cost a lot

Though there's been some gts for sale a few years ago and before that a flurry of rds. So you never know. Depends how picky you are over spec. I had to have a trs.

Good luck either way welcome to a ride in mine some time.

(Was hoping Tim would turn up...)

As said many times on this forum, buy the best you can afford, preferably structurally sound as rust can be a BIG issue if unaddressed. Pricewise expect to pay £1000 for something usable and reasonably tidy. Sheds are cheap-thats why they are sheds. Dont worry too much about hydraulic leaks as these can usually be sorted pretty easily, or be too frightened by the hydraulic system as its not as complicated as it looks. A diesel would be the better bet with the simplicity of the all mechanical engine, carbed engines can be tempramental. My advice is dont buy the first one you see look at several as you have no obligation to buy and get a feel for yourself of exactly what you're letting yourself in for.

There are several bx's currently on Car & Classic ranging from £200- 1200. Worth a look.

Mk1 cars are very rare now, mechanically they are easy to get parts for but interior trim is really hard.

You won't be able to be choosy if you want a mk1 as there isn't enough of them, you could look to France where they are more common.
