rear brake backplates

Post by Discoil »

MOT tester man said I had to fit some covers for the next mot.
So I had a pair of ' mangled ' Xantia ones which I panel bashed into shape .
Not a true fit , although the fixing holes are spot on. With a little excursion of the tinsnips and pliers for the topside of the arm it all fitted very well.

Why would it need the covers for the mot ? On c3 Picasso they used to have covers on the rear discs and after a while they were no longer fitted so can't really see why it should have them for the mot as it doesn't effect the operation of the brakes .

They should only be an MOT failure if they are in a dangerous state and likely to fall off. If you remove the back plates all together it cannot fail the mot for not having them so the MOT man should not have "said I had to fit some covers for the next mot"

..that_

I've had one missing on the rear of my 16v at the last MOT as I hadn't finished trying to remove the snapped bolt fixing the old plate in... didn't fail or get an advisory...
