TGD Automatic Transmission Fluid Recommendations.

Post by almostfrench »

Hi All,
Does anyone have any recommendations for Auto Trans fluid for the TGD?
Mine's looking a bit brown, so a couple of changes won't go astray.
One hears of horror stories surrounding backwards-compatibility of modern trans fluid.
I was thinking perhaps of Castrol Transmax High Mileage as it claims to be biased towards having seal softeners and detergents.
Any horror stories?

Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris
I too have heard the horror stories of people using later ATF variabts which were supposed to be backward compatible but caused damage. There was a massive kerfuffle about it with Mitsubishi Delicar 4x4 owners when I had one of those so personally I would stick with Dexron II .

Castrol here:

Or apparently the OE Elf brand here:

Don't let the parts counter tell you that Dex 3 is an updated version of Dex 2. It's not compatible with the ZF box in the BX and will destroy it. Dex 2 only.
