Re: LHM leak..... help!

Post by PMF »

I'm a new member. I have joined to ask for clarification on which pipes are included in the Octopus. I have a similar problem of leaking hydraulic return hose. But I'm unsure if the hose I need comes as part of the Octopus, or is a separate assembly. I have a persistent leak at both front wheels around the front struts where two rubber pipes come together and are attached to the struts with a metal band.. The rubbers are perished. I try to rejoin them using a short length of copper pipe, but they keep breaking. I need to replace them, but have been unable to get any, partly perhaps because I don't know what to call them? Do they have a name or a part number? Are these the mini octopus referred to, or do they come as part of the Octopus collection of pipes. Do you know where I can buy them, and any particular problems/advice in fitting them? Presumably it would be sensible to replace the Octopus assembly at the same time. Any help much appreciated. PMF

These are just front strut return pipes, sold seperately and available on ebay etc, although from memory someone on here was selling some remanufactured ones, search the parts for sale threads.
They think it's all over, it is now!

Have looked here under parts for sale, and on ebay and can't find any. Have put into search engines citroen bx hydraulic return pipes front strut, and variations on that - with no results. Any suggestions on what other description they may go under, or a source I can try? Any help much appreciated PMF

Thanks Ken. I had just found the reference CITROEN BX 1982 - 1993 RETURN BANJO PIPE 95622818 and that led me to GSFCarparts, which is the link you have given. What I was going to ask was are these genuine parts do you think? Reading the Club threads there are comments that some of the suppliers are 'rubbish', the rubber doesn't last and best to use genuine Citroen parts. Thanks again for your help. PMF

PMF, you are quite right, the above inferior part from GSF barely lasts from one MOT to the next before starting to perish and leak. Best to buy from the main Cit dealer at about £1 more for a part that will give you a decent length of service.
