restorer

Post by jhunt31 »

Does anyone know a reasonable restorer - preferably somewhere not too far from Northamptonshire ?

Thanks
John

I can do them, but I'm in south hants, not Northants  Here's my Dad's GT I'm doing:

I think Chevronics aren't too far from you though, and they've done a couple.

Hi Kitch
Thanks for your reply. Looks like a fantastic job you did on the GT! I wish you were a bit nearer here but on the other hand I could probably get down to you. What focused my mind was the suspension has just started playing up and it looks like the bearings in the arm/s have gone. There is a clunk when I go over bumps. I joined the club last night (after previous membership had lapsed) and saw that Rutter 123 had posted only yesterday "pair of rear arms with all new bearings/seals, plastic sleeves etc. One is a arm and one is s/h ready to fit £75 pair ".
Apart from a bit of rust near the rear arm bearings I can't find any rust on the body and she has been great apart from a few minor problems. I can see you are very thorough so if you are up for a restoration job perhaps you could give me an idea of cost please?

There's quite a jump from mechanical overhaul to full restoration. To fully restore a BX to show-winner (not saying that's what you want. but just using it as an example) you could quite easily blow over £10k on one. It really depends how much work it needs to begin with. The GT would be up to around £12k if I was doing it in company time and charging my Dad for it
Restoration is a big word. Recomissioning, repairing, overhauling....they're all different. Be hard to advise you with anything accurate without seeing it I'm afraid, but happy to help you if I can.

That's very helpful thanks Kitch. I am still looking at my options which isn't made any easier when I think that the government might be banning diesels by 2020!

Just wanted to thank Kitch and especially Rutter 123 for your responses.

I did follow up with Rutter 123 and he did a brilliant mechanical overhaul for my BX - was very clear on what needed doing and did exactly what he said he would ! Thanks.

No worries.

I think you were confusing 'repair' with 'restore' :D
