random plug by the fuse board and other random 16V stuff?

Post by Adrian E »

Hello learned owners :D

Was fiddling about trying to find a fused power source for the fuel pump on our non-starting 16V last weekend (from what I can figure it isn't fused, but just 2 relays on the inner wing) and in the process of trying to get the fuse panel low enough to access the whole thing I found a yellow 2 pin plug just floating about in the area around the fuse panel. I can't see anywhere it should be connected to, and it may well be related to a bodged/non-functional alarm that appears to have replaced the remote central locking, but just wondered if anyone might know what it could be?

I'm hoping it's not my ham-fisted removal of the fuse panel that's dislodged something!

Am anticipating a new fuel pump and filter to get the car running again - also spotted a coolant leak which appears to be coming from the radiator itself, judging by the blue smudges around the bottom. Looking at one of the Chinese alloy replacements, along with a long overdue fitting of a 2nd fan/diesel thermostat and fan switch. Does anyone knock up a wiring kit for the fans?

I have a good fuel pump if you need one from an 8v gti but i suspect it may be the same.

New Bosch ones aren't expensive new so will just bung a new one and a filter on there, if that's what it turns out to be. Thanks for the offer though!

Any idea on the spurious plug?!

From memory, I had a spurious 2 pin yellow, 3 pin brown and 2 single browns taped up there when I took mine out. It's probably nothing!
I have zero patience for your tedium.

I have a few extra unused plugs coming from the bulkhead inside the engine bay on my t/d, i would think they are for for the aircon bits or some other optional extra's?

Thanks folks - will assume the wiring isn't a problem! I'd have been doing well to dislodge it without realising, although there's a fair amount of force required to get it down to view the relays!

ECP have a 30% off voucher code valid for the next 10 mins (flash30) so ordered Bosch pump and filter for collection for about £78. If it isn't that my dad won't have to go and collect it!
