Meant to say, should be no problem in the mountains so long as one fan works (and your rad is in good nick). Had the orange light come on going up the Croix de Fer a couple of years ago in mid-summer heat, which is when I realised the fans weren't working at all. Jury-rigged one to come on full and it was no problem at all for the rest of the trip.

For time being i have left it with just one fan working on the rad switch and fitted a manual override on the second, sat in traffic last week for a good while on quite a hot day temp never went over an indicated 86 degrees no1 fan seems to be doing quite an efficient job on its own with no2 as back up if needed, the rad is still the o/e fitment as far as i know with 290k's but coolant has been changed every 3 years.
