I quite like them too, apart from the headlights which are too small IMO. If I was ever to get a new car, this would be on the shortlist (alongside a VW Beetle, Dacia Duster and Lada Niva - yes, you can still buy them new!)

The original beetle stopped being made a few years ago now. The 3rd incarnation is still in production for now but won't be for long.

I actually meant the 3rd version, although if they still did the original that would be tempting. Not a fan of the Mk2, but the current one looks great in my eyes!

I've been quiet on here recently. Blame a holiday fortnight, helping organise moving daughter into a house and generally being caught up in organising things like the Chevrons and the Challenge. Not much BX action. The Synergie's proving useful.

Rover was great on holiday, but: Yesterday it threw a belt. Needs a water pump - OK, I sorted cash price, but still it's another hefty bill. Most work seems to be getting to it all and then refitting.

A BX it ain't.

All modern cars are the same Phil, so much stuff packed in a small space, it could be worse, some Alfa's you have to take the engine out to change the timing belt!

Something's going funny in my head.

I'm considering a Renault.

Sorry.

Apart from the fact Renault have made the best hot hatches for the last 10 or so years?

Modern Renaults drive well, they're comfy, roomy, good value etc. My 'fire' point was more about mechanical complexity, and jobs that should be easy being massive and expensive. And frequent, seeing as they're not all that reliable either.

I've always had a hankering for a Renault 5 for some reason.

Ah, no more a frying pan/fire combo than an old Citroen, in fairness.

I agree Renaults drive well, and have lots of tech, but are pretty unreliable and the depreciation is quite spectacular!

I had a sniff of a Fuego Turbo the other day but it's not available any more. So I'll stick with Citroen lol
