1988 BX 16TRS - 75k - MOT 09/2017 £800

Post by Retrofrench »

I've had so much fun with this cracking little car but due to increasing mileage I really must get a diesel. I haven't found a replacement for it yet, but here is the ad. Price negotiable. Link to car and classic at the bottom.

You are looking at a very straight and original Citroen BX 16TRS. Registered in Exeter on 01/08/1988. Recently passed its MOT in September. It has only covered 75k from new. It still has the supplying dealer number plate at the rear and sticker saying 'Cousins of Barnstaple' on the boot lid.

I'm sure you know how rare these cars are becoming. This is my second BX and I have used this car as my daily driver since June this year clocking up over 4500 trouble free miles, a lot of those on the motorway. Despite being 28 years old it has power steering, central locking, 4 electric windows and an electric sunroof - all functional. The interior shows very little sign of wear and is presented in beautiful grey tweed which is amazingly comfortable. I have fitted matching headrests to the rear seats. Genuine Citroen rubber mats fitted in the front and the original Blaupunkt cassette player is still present. Only 3 former keepers.

The bodywork is in excellent condition, it has definitely been resprayed at some point as the finish is very good. There is a small dent to the offside passenger rear door, only visible from certain angles. I only noticed after I bought it, could easily be popped out if you wanted. Below is a list of items replaced in my ownership (all receipts kept)

Sparks plugs
HT leads
Distributor cap and rotar arm
Air filter
Fuel filter
New wipers
4 new Falken tyres fitted 24/09/16 @ 74,505 miles
High pressure pump belt
Rear brake pads and fitting kit
Recent wheel alignment

Negatives

Boot struts are tired and could do with replacing. Approx £20-30

I have every MOT certificate from 1994 onwards, original owner's manual, 2 sets of keys and some other bills/invoices. New rear spheres and LHM fluid change in December 2015. New cambelt and waterpump in October 2015. The engine is great - very pokey and easily keeps up with modern traffic. It'll happily pootle around town or sit at 80mph on the motorway all day long. It has the solex carb with automatic choke, functioning well. Economy is very respectable.

Starts, stops, rises as a BX should. I get lots of admiring glances in this car and it's a pleasure to drive and supremely comfortable thanks to its hydopneumatic suspension. If it's so good why am I selling? I'd rather not but increasing mileage means I now need a diesel. If you fancy driving something a bit different but hugely practical, economical and reliable get in touch! Can be insured for peanuts on a classic insurance policy.

Car is located in Swansea but I regularly drive down to south Devon.

They don't tend to sell on here as we all have them already.

True, but not everyone here has a BX. I bought this one from here. No harm in spreading the word!

You've driven a 16 Auto before, right? You really don't want it to be an auto!

Owned one - long long ago, a red 1.6 TRS, E reg hatch. Bought it used from the Citroen dealer that used to be near West Croydon station. Loved the thing, though the auto gearbox started to loose drive periodically so I sold it for an F reg Cavalier. I felt like royalty, with it's 4 elec windows, elec sunroof, central locking etc. Usual things like the carb played up when I first got it so wouldn't start when hot, plus the interior fan only worked on a high setting. Got them fixed, took it everywhere!

Gutted to have missed this. It's precisely the model I wanted, having had an F Reg TRS when I was younger. If it comes up for sale again, please let me know...
