thermostats

Post by RobC »

Are they all the same for petrol BXs, or do I need a specific one for a 16v? Mine must be bust because on the motorway the temp's barely above 65-70 degrees, which can't be doing much for my petrol consumption and engine wear...

My t/d tends to run at approx 60/65 during the colder months and 70/80 during the summer but doesn't seem to have any adverse effects on engine wear or consumption. I have fitted a digital temp gauge which isn't particularly accurate but a pretty good guide as to what's going on under the bonnet.

The opening temperature for a Petrol, GTi anyway, is 83 degrees.

Yes that's what I thought, mine is obviously stuck open all the time.
