Hard to find Hardy disc

Post by cauchoiskev »

My estate is due for the MOT in January, so I was giving it the once-over to find potential fails. The Hardy disc looked like a good candidate, pretty cracked and brittle. This car has PAS.

So I tried to find a replacement... uh oh. I only found one site with stock in France https://www.webdealauto.com/fr/flasque- ... 90652.html, at the outrageous price of 65.75€. I finally found one on ebay in Germany, at only 13€, but with delivery to France costing the double. I bought it anyway, but it seems to have been their last one.

The reference of the part is 95 630 094. The non-PAS versions are still available, I suppose because they are common with a few other old French cars, but the PAS one is specific to the BX, so if you can get your hands on one, buy it now !

The pas version has been difficult to source for several years. I found a last one at a Cit Dealer in Ascot and even they have since gone out of business some years ago.

On the plus side, the rubber part supplied for the non-pas is the same and can be rivetted up into the old housing for the pas. Extra fiddle-work but do-able. :)

Chevronics prices are hilarious. But I guess that's good business - if they're the only ones doing these parts they can charge wth they like.

It may well be the case that it costs a lot to have these parts reproduced, and there's nothing to stop anyone else doing the same thing and undercutting them, of course.
Personally, I wouldn't rest easy knowing I was chucking an absurd margin on parts for BX owners (if my business began dealing in BXs) but then that's just because I always put myself in the customer's shoes when it comes to taking money off them. It's probably why I'm not wealthy

Ha yes - that's the one I bought a while ago. Sure it needs some fiddling to make it work with a PAS car, but still. A lot better value than £78!

The £78 is the same and also needs some fiddling with for PAS.

In that case I might buy up a load of the £5 one, list them a bit more clearly on ebay, and flog em for £50! Easy money...

Has anyone got an updated link for one of these disks? - I've had a look on ebay and the only one that's showing for the BX is £49.95 + £3.99 postage, which is frankly ridiculous, especially since it looks like it'll need modifying to fit.

Chevronics sell them too at around 50GBP. It looks like the non PAS one so will need modding. Its a vital part though whatever the price.

Would this one, or one like it fit?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/STEERING-COL ... 3d88539073

As you've already said; it looks like one for manual steering models, but if it will fit after I bolt on my metal steering joint then it'll do.

Or there's this one, listed for a Peugeot. - Again, would it fit?

The peugeot one might be ok, although c...kev above says the BX one is unique. The other one does look to be correct. You could order them both and send back one or both if you decide not to keep them.
