It has been decided after several that my good friend and I will be entering the Mongol Rally in 2020.
For those who don't know this is a challenge not a race leaving from the UK and driving to the finish line in Ulan Ude in S.E Russia taking in several countries en route. Unfortunately a BX can't be used as it's over the limit of 1000cc.
The aim is to get to the finish line, with no back up support, no set route, just your team and your trusty steed, crossing 15/20 countries, mountain passes, rivers, corrupt borders and deserts.. Average completion time is 4/6 weeks and clocking up 10,000 miles or more.
The rules are thus:
Buy a cheap small car ideally under 1000cc (1200cc really is the max)
Drive it to the finish line
Raise a minimum of £1000 for charity
Job done.
Our choice of car will be most likely Jap, Nissan Micra, Suzuki Swift or a Diahatsu Charade which all seem quite popular.
The success rate is 75/80% reaching the finish line.
Why the Mongol Rally?
Why not..

Re: Mongol Rally
So a BX11 if you could find one wouldn't be totally out of the frame?

Re: Mongol Rally
I was considering a 14 but a financial penalty of £300 is implied if the limit is exceeded, an 11 would be great but hhard to find and prob a long way away.

Sounds epic. How about an AX or Visa to keep it Citroen - on second thoughts you actually want to get back

Re: Mongol Rally
Neither of them, both quite rare and not within my budget, I did consider a Saxo/106 but then I remembered that the rear suspension arm bearings are made from toffee,, I found a Lada 1300 on eBay (the absolute correct tool for the job) mite be worth a look, , Im a bit old school the less electronics there are the better, . So sadly Citroen's and Peugeot's are not high on the list.
The car won't be driven back, it can be left at the finish line and donated to the locals provided it's still driveable or shipped somewhere for crushing, for an extra cost the organisers can srrange to have what's left of your car transported back to Eastern Europe and from there it's down to you to arrange the rest.

That would be a real Challenge. Let us all know about sponsoring Cliff.
The Joy of BX with just one Citroën BX to my name now. Will I sing Bye Bye to my GTI or will it be Till death us do part.
