DAB radio install

Post by Ross S »

Hiya,
I was wondering if anyone here had experience of successfully installing a DAB head unit in to their BX?
I believe that these cars predate the signal boosters that more modern cars have built in to their antennas (and that block DAB) so it may just work fine.
Has anyone attempted this?

Yes, I installed what would have been the very first car DAB radio in my blue BX (God rest his wire melting suicidal soul). It was a Blaupunkt Woodstock and it was great apart from the fact that it organised the stations in to groups. It looked almost the correct vintage and that's why I chose it and forgave it's weird channel organising ways.

I used one of those standard aerial splitters (12V powered thing). 6 music all the way! Experiments with a on-windscreen powered stick surprisingly weren't as good.

I have also used a Pure Highway H260DBi headunit in another old car (480). This was pretty good and did Bluetooth audio and calls also. (H240 does DAB but not Bluetooth).

Also, you could install the Pure Highway 600 and keep your old stereo if it is decent already (unlikely knowing standard BX equipment)

DAB has a different aerial connector. You will need either a new DAB aerial or a you can install a little powered splitter box which takes your old aerial and outputs to FM and DAB connectors.

What I want is Planet Rock in my BX via the original antenna, and it sounds like this is entirely possible. Thank you all.

Yes, its been nearly a month of daily use and I am hugely enjoying driving ‘Beatrix’ as she has been christened.
Still lots and lots to do but all part of the fun.
