new 16v owner

Post by Gary theobald »

Hi Everyone just introducing myself as a proud owner of a black phase 2 16 valve the car looks great and drives really well the only issue is that the coolant temperature gets to near 100 although the fan does then kick in was wondering whether anybody here could offer advise? I have checked the coolant level and it appears normal although more watery than antifreeze also was thinking of changing thermostat does that sound reasonable?
Thanks in advance

Normal running temp is around 85-90 degrees, I would expect 100 to be a little high unless in traffic. I would think a thorough flush and coolant renew wouldn't hurt but may not resolve your problem. Changing the stat is not a bad idea.
How are you measuring the engine temp?

Thanks for the reply, just using the dash gauge but left it running in my garage before and certainly not overheating, also oil gauge shows level but not pressure is this a common fault any idea where to begin looking? Thanks

I wouldn't rely on the gauges, they will give an idea of wots going on inside the engine bay but not 100% accurate.
Usual prob with oil level/ pressure gauge, I expect the pressure sensor is faulty or maybe the gauge itself, Jaba or Kitch could prob give you a better idea on that.

I am pretty sure the 16V fan has a two stage / speed cut in. The sensor at the bottom of the radiator (offside) has three terminals to activate the speeds. Remove the plug and give them a clean and you may find the fan starts sooner. The sensor itself could be faulty.
They do run pretty hot when stationary, it may well just be normal.
Prefer it to the Lamborghini, like Signor Gandini!
