1987 BX 16RS (RED)

Post by Patricia »

We’ve got a low mileage (98,000) 1987 red Citroen Bx which we want to Go to a good home. We’ve had it from new and we’re reluctant to see it go for scrap. it’s always been serviced and the hydraulics have been replaced. It hasn’t been started for a while but we’re confident it could be got going again with a little effort. Is anyone interested?

Not for me thanks but good luck with the sale!

Is it 1.4, 1.6 or 1.9 petrol, when did the MOT run out (or did it fail or have advisories on its last one), is it rusty?

Pictures and location are always good to tempt people too!

Hi Patricia

If you have the registration number we can get the info from that?

Any idea of costs, would be a shame to see it scrapped.

Thanks

Sorry, not checked into the forum until today! The Reg is F887 EFM. We would much rather it went off to a good home then the scrap man take it away.

According to DVLA its a 16RS, also hasn't been on the road for over 12 years as no MOT history, has it been stored inside or out

Thanks

For the last 6 years or so it’s been under shelter but outside.

Thanks folks! I’ve just watched her go off to her new home where I am sure she’ll be very happy. So we didn’t need to resort to the scrap man, all thanks to this forum.

I am now the proud owner of this fine piece of 80's Citroen! I live just a couple of miles outside Abingdon so was it was very handy for me to go and view.
A couple of hours of tinkering on Saturday morning got it running, just a fresh battery, afew damp ignition components and a lack of fuel was stopping it starting. The last tax disc on it is 2006, considering its been off the road since then it's in really quite good condition, certainly too good to scrap. The engine fired up and runs sweet on the carburetted 1.6, the hydraulics all seem to be functioning fine, raises up and down well, steering is light and the brakes working.

As I found it:

So a lot of leafs and plant matter from living under a tree for the last few years, but surprisingly little rust, just a few small bits, no showstoppers.
After a couple of hours with the pressure washer a lot of the grime was cleared away:

When it's wet it looks quite presentable, but it needs a big polish up in the future. I'll make a proper thread on it to track it's progress.

Cheers,
George

Yikes, looks like something has been living under the bonnet for a while
But great to see you stepped in and took it on, looks decent too.

I'm sure this if quite far down your list but just letting you know that the rear bumper can be refreshed using a heat gun. Just give it a good scrub/wash, wave a heat gun over it and voila! I then kept it topped up with Autoglym bumper and tyre gel?. My red one looked amazing!
