engine compatability

Post by Stuart »

Hi, I am restoring a lovely late TXD turbo estate, which I bought from this forum with a duff engine.
I thought the cambelt had snapped, but its been stripped due to some kind of lock up in the engine.
The head is just about to come off to investigate fully, but I feel another engine, or at least a head is going to be needed.

So my question is which engines are compatible? Am I right in thinking mine is a 1700 turbo.
I assume later Xantia turbos are 1900, so as BX's are thin on the ground and mostly to nice to break, what should I go for?
There is a ZX turbo on ebay at present with a go engine, a possibility? Thinking 405's, 306's ect...

Thanks in advance.

I have a spare TD engine going for free. It was working but exhibited symptoms of head gasket or cylinder head failure. It might be useful to you for spares or repair. Its near Oxford.

Ive never heard of a lock up? I would pop the head off first and see whats what, I imagine the camshaft has snapped in half....its much easier to replace the head.
Lots of Motors, mostly semi broken....
