My problem is i worked in the trade for too long before the situation of everyone having one job only so i did everything from simple oil changes to Insurance repairs and resprays.

Well the front bumper is now getting the same treatment ready for the CCC Meet so it should look good although i cannot compound or polish for a couple of weeks yet but at least i can do the main car body.

The only tips I can give is plenty of prep work and if it is a diesel clean the bumper with thinners around the filler area and do the front fully as it will have all sorts of oils on it especially around the LHM tank area, Makesure you go to a good paint shop and get the paint as cheap stuff is really thin Mix it 50/50 with premium thinners you then need about 4-5 good coats of primer then leave for an hour then 4-5 coats of Paint Then i put 4 good coats of lacquer Make sure you leave enough time between coats for flash off usually about 15-20 Mins then leave about 2 weeks before compounding and polishing. :D

I've never used a spray gun in anger & a week before it's big day out is probably not the time, but hey it's gotta be done.
I may try & find some spare bumpers to 'practice' on.

Thanks for the tips, i'll post pics of mine when i do it.

Forgot to mention the best spray guns are the gravity fed variety as the suction ones require a very large compressor for a good job. gravity fed are the ones with the paint hopper on top mine only cost £23.
Keep the gun about 6 inch from the work but resist the urge to spray in an arc as you go over the bumper try and keep it at 6 inch all the way across your sweep or you will get Thin-Thick_Thin paint and it will run where it is thick.

Aaron
Presumably you're using a professionalk spray gun not aerosol?
When do you revcommend spraying the lacquer - would that be after two weeksm and after having T-cutted the paint?

NO spray the lacquer about 30 minutes after your last coat of paint the only compounding and polishing that should be done is after about 2 weeks then use a G3 Paste by Farecla for the compuonding and a good polish afterwards.
