BX 14e noise on deceleration

Post by bussell »

So picked up my new BX and when I take my foot off the gas there is noise which sounds a bit like a warped disc as in it goes and comes based on speed - whoosh whoosh type noise.

It’s not loud and taking it out of gear and coasting does not solve it, only accelerating does. Braking does not change the noise which is why I’m not thinking discs.

Any ideas?

Does it stop if you press the clutch pedal down? Or dodgy drive shaft maybe.

It stays if you take it out of gear ans with clutch up and down doesn’t change the noise! Could be a drive shaft maybe, thanks for that! They’re tricky to diagnose - the closest I’ve had before was a loose wheel!

Depending on the speed of the noise cycle it could even be the alternator or belt.

Wheel bearing or intermediate Driveshaft bearing?
Is this noise there all the time, is it relative to engine speed?

Does nothing affect it, other than accelerating? How about cornering?

No steering doesn’t change it, braking doesn’t change it- only accelerating

Engine revs don’t make a difference either!!

Maybe tyres? I’ll jack it up at the weekend and have a good wobble

Could it be the discs rubbing on the backplate? Easy to check, and pretty easy for the backplates to get bent just enough to catch.

I'm going either a CV joint, or rear lower engine mount.

I am going for all the above and exhaust due to engine movement.

Will check that too! And it makes the noise all the time not just under deceleration just you can’t hear it when the engine is under load, will check engine mints, cv joints, brakes, exhaust etc!
