Just picked up my project 1990 BX GTi

Thought I would post up about my latest project, it’s a 1990 Citroen BX GTi 1.9 (auto)

Has air con, power windows,mirrors, sunroof, all original with thousands of receipts . It’s covered 145k

It drives amazingly for the age and mileage , just needs new front drop links and some little bits on the body . I’m tidying it up to sell on in the next few months

Looking for passenger door mirror, drivers headlight,

And also the rear seems very bouncy when driving . The height adjustment works perfectly though

Bouncy rear, could worn out spheres or rear arm bearings. If the wheels look like / \ from behind, then most likely the latter but could be both.

Believe the mirror will be electric rather than manual.

The wheel camber looks fine so it could be spheres I suppose. Anyone good to use in Dorset or is it something easily done at home

How can I test the spheres?

Only way I know is remove them and get them pressure tested. Some have made a home made tester but if you have gone to all the trouble of removing them, it would be worth fitting new ones. They can be recharged at cost but I don't think they last as long as new ones.

I don't believe the wheels have to show visible signs of a slant for the bearings to be worn, depends how bad they are.

This may be related but also noticed if I brake the back goes up

This can be caused by gas leaking from a sphere into the brake line so be sure to bleed the rear brakes after you have changed the spheres.

You may want to change the LHM anyway when you would then normally bleed the brakes to get new LHM into them.

For what they cost I would just replace them.

Any decent motor factors should have a selection of bleed valves, I got mine from MDC in Slough, they were slightly longer by a few mm but did the job. Rear ones do snap off quite easily or round off on removal, maybe Pleaides keep stock?

I have just ordered FF and RR bleed screws from Brakes International (they're in Rochdale).
A good website, making ordering easy.

Always worth using single-hex, rather than bi-hex, sockets on these and other small hydraulic unions - and never an open-ended spanner. A single-hex flare spanner (has an opening that slips over a pipe) does a good job too:
