Towing a Bx

I have bought my first Bx (first Citroen also) and want to tow it (with an A frame) home 70 km in rural france. The rear hydraulics dont work (something about an octopus!) so will it drag its tail. With no rear suspension might towing cause damage? The engine and front HLM work so would it be better, worse or ideed necessary to active them? Are there attachment points accessible without the front lifted? Cheers Jack

The received wisdom is to always put it on a low loading trailer because with flat suspension it is effectively rigid meaning it will simply be at the mercy of the roads condition. Any small bumps would result in the car hopping along because it is just resting on its bump stops, small bump stops at that which are not designed to support the weight of the car at travelling speeds. The chassis rails they are fitted in may not be strong enough for all this not designed for load rusting gently or not.
Plus I don't think its legal to tow a car with its engine running so that is not a starter.

Yep don’t tow a hydraulic Citroen when it’s on it’s bump stops as it will shake it to bits!

Agree - the car must be flat-trailered to avoid damage.

A tilt/slide trailer is best as ramps may cause the car to bottom out poss causing damage to anything on the underside as clearance could be as little as a few inches

You can jack the rear up and put some wood between the bump stops and the rear suspension arms to get the ground clearance to load it on a trailer.
