Does anyone anything about this GTI 16V?

Post by Pcheaven »

In my continuous search for a GTI, I spotted this one for sale.

https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1254392

Does anyone know anything about this car ( if its yours feel free to DM me if you prefer)

It does seem a little expensive, and a tad un loved under the bonnet ( at this price I would have expected new spark plug leads !!)

TIA

And it's got factory-fitted AC, by the look of it.
And with a spares car!
If that's what you want, I'd be over there PDQ.

Under normal circumstances. I would.
None essential journey and all that ......

For now I have raised some questions with the seller and asked for some pictures from normal BX Tin worm hot spots etc.

Still find it odd that this advert doesn’t have a picture of the whole engine bay.

It’s a nice colour though.

It looks like it has been off the road for several years as there's moss in the seatbelts and the drivers seat is all dirty. Also the ignition wires look like a £500 car. If it was some 1500 miles this way I could ask for more pictures from underneath the car and from the normal rust spots, as they are outside the areas in photos. Is this really the price range for an RHD 16Valve for that condition?
BX 4x4 estate, several BX Van's and some more normal estates in Finland.

I totally agree on the condition comments. It’s definitely not the best way to sell a car.
But to be fair to all parties, we dont know the circumstances of the sale - perhaps they were recently inherited..
So it is what it is..........Benefit of doubt etc. Every sale has a back story.

It seems the Irish MOT (NCT ?? ) expired a few months ago. That, and Ireland isn’t the largest RHD BX market. Together with the fact you cant drive either of them to the UK as is. So viewing the vehicles, shipping and associated fees will be very expensive.
Also there are no pictures of the second BX. It’s could be a pile of rust in a bag,.

I have asked for more pictures etc.

It is a lot of money for a BX though.

For any 'import', expect to have real difficulty insuring the vehicle ('foreign'-plated vehicles no longer legal to insure in Europe, although lord-knows how UK is now dealing with this), and therefore you might have to get it (them, in this case) trailered back home. Once on local plates, it's straightforward. Temporary plates might be possible, enabling insurance.

I had to organise trailering with my recent BX purchase from France; the trailering cost €1000, and that was after two days each way driving to inspect it, and a one-day flight to/from to conclude the deal and see it loaded up and away. If you want a particular car badly, it can be a lot of work. Covid travel restrictions do complicate things, unfortunately.
